These pictures are an extract from my latest self-published photo book SEELE BRENNT.
The book is a research of almost 10 years of b/w and colors photographs that tell the deep changes of a metropolis in constant renewal.
Ancestral sites poised between two centuries, with a past so full of energy and stories. Magical places, where time has stopped. Derelict buildings torn from the passing of time, through occupations and social projects. Images that fade while everything quickly disappears, swallowed by the showcase city, in the difficult battle against gentrification.
Berlin is changing skin like a snake in a frantic mutation that relentlessly day after day transforms his parts, a city without a center, which gradually is eating away all his "inner Peripheries," in search of an identity.
Berlin was the Future when it belonged to the Past, when there were spaces to be filled with projects and large empty areas open to imagination, still giving
the possibility of dreaming and creating.
In the sweltering saturation of space that is happening now, hardly still resist the realities that once gave way to people to live the neighborhood in the manner they wished.
Speculation play checkmate with old pre-existing buildings.
Soon our eyes will have no more more endless distances to get lost. Overturned pulleys, smashed buildings, closed windows. Silhouettes of cranes and wind slapping on the scaffolding. Construction site noises.
Berlin is changing face and wearing his flashy dress for the party, while scars remain, like old sutures.
The hand of gentrification is a tug of war with the roots that do not want to be eradicated.
The survival instinct of the neighborhood and its traditions is as strong as the noise of the bulldozers that destroy the horizon.
Metropolis of the third millennium are devouring and regurgitating behind them all that no longer serves and is obsolete, pushing against the borders all that is different, troublesome or foreign.
Neighborhoods so rich in history and traditions are quickly getting filled with nothingness, sparkling windows, disrespectful tourists, deleting all identities and unique characters to merge them all into a flat uniformity.
How long is now? There is no Future without memory.

Queste fotografie sono un estratto del mio ultimo libro fotografico autoprodotto SEELE BRENNT.
Il libro e´realizzato in 150 copie firmate e numerate.
Al suo interno una selezione di quasi 10 anni di fotografie in bianco e nero e colori che raccontano i cambiamenti profondi di una metropoli in continuo rinnovarsi.
Luoghi ancestrali in bilico tra due Millenni, dal passato così carico di energia e storie da creare l unicità di alcuni quartieri. Luoghi magici, dove il tempo si e´ fermato, luoghi strappati alla distruzione attraverso occupazioni e progetti sociali. Luoghi che ormai non esistono più, immagini che sbiadiscono mentre tutto velocemente scompare, inghiottito dalla città vetrina, nella difficile battaglia contro la gentrificazione.
Ogni copia e´arricchita da una fotografia e un inserto poster con le voci della città´: voci di resistenza e dissenso, una raccolta di murales, graffiti e striscioni di protesta contro la chiusura di spazi e la speculazione edilizia.
